This section of the Holiday Nature Preserve is known as the Ellsworth section and has its entrance across the street from the Nankin Mills Interpretive Center on Hines Drive just East of Ann Arbor Trail. The preserve was established by Wayne County after the death of Arthur Richardson in 1938. In his will, the Detroit banker and philanthropist made provisions to establish the preserve in the name of his uncle and mentor, William P. Holliday. It took over twenty years to assemble hundreds of little parcels that eventually became the Holliday Wildlife Preserve in 1958.
