Huron Valley Trail, South Lyon and Milford, MI - Michigan BIke Trail

The Huron Valley Trail Trail is another rail-to-trail trail, i.e. a rail road track converted into a bike trail/route. it is entirely paved and 10.5 miles. "It begins as the Lyon Oaks Country Park, accessible from Pontiac Trail, and follows the former "Airline Railroad" corridor westward through Milford Township. The trailway turns southwest into Lyon Township and continues on the former railway corridor to the City of South Lyon." -- Destination Oakland Brochure

"At I-96, a connector trail heads west toward Kensington Metropark and Island Lake State Recreation Area. The trail to South Lyon is relatively flat with only very gentle grades, while the trail to Kensginton/Island Lake offers some challenging hills. A unique boardwalk under I-96 and Grand River Ave. provides access from Island Lake Recreation to Kensington Metropark." -- Destination Oakland Brochure

Major road crossings are at Pontiac Trail, Grand River Ave., Milford Road, Ten Mile Road, and Kent Lake Road, which provide access to the trail.

The Huron Valley Trail provides direct access to numerous area parks, including City of South Lyon McHattie and Volunteer Park, James F. Atchison Memorial Park, Lyon Township Community Park, Kensington Metropark, and Island Lake Metropark.

The Huron Valley Trail is one among over 1,300 rail trails in Michigan.
